Temeschburger

The Temeschburger Schecken (also known as Timisora Tumbler) originated in Romania. I first saw information about the Temeschburger Schecken in an article by John Johnson in the Spring 2003 (Vol. 32 # 1) bulletin of the Rare Breeds Pigeon Club. A drawing of the breed was on its cover. I contacted Mr. Johnson and soon thereafter obtained a few pairs. The breed is described and pictured in Levi’s “Encyclopedia of Pigeon Breeds on page 684 and Schille’s Bildschone Taubenrassen page 336.

They are gentle birds, relatively easy to raise. The following is a translation (thanks to Mick Bassett) of the German Standard for the breed. We only have them in black, but we have seen Red, and Dun in the USA. Not widely kept but the numbers have been increasing. They have been shown at least at the last 3 NPA national shows and the Young Bird show in Louisville. The interesting coloration is discussed as Timisora Tumbler Grizzle (Ttg) in the latest edition of Dr. Paul Gibson’s “Genetics of Pigeons”.
